Gabrielle grew up in New York City on the upper west side of Manhattan. Raised by an eccentric, multi talented father and a commonsensical mother, she was always encouraged to follow what ever she was interested in at the moment. For most of her young life it was drawing and sculpture. But Gabrielle could always be found after class singing in the school choir. Her musical talent was recognized from the beginning. She was a featured soloist on several of world renown Cantor Paul Zim's Hebrew records, a featured soprano representing the United States at Venezuela's Simon Bolivar Festival and in Saint Patrick's Cathedral International Holiday celebration. For her sixteenth birthday her dad and her sister Amelia gave her a guitar, which, after a little help from her friends (and her sister), she learned to play by ear. After a year of figuring out chords and writing some songs, Gabrielle started playing around the NYC folk circuit just for the fun of it. Her focus though, was still on visual art and she eventually left music as she pursued sculpture and painting.
In 1996, Gabrielle returned to singing when she was asked to join the popular New York City blues cover band, Blooze Junction. Over the next two years she started playing her guitar again and writing songs in which influences such as Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt and Bob Dylan could be heard. Sometime in 1998 Gabrielle left the blues band to start her own original music project and all the pieces started coming together. That's the year her song, "Line Of Your Leg" won the Spree National Song writing contest, while "Threw It All Away" took an honorable mention in the Great American Songwriting contest.
In 2000, she recorded and produced her debut full length CD, Dreamtown, which received great critical acclaim and was voted 3rd best unsigned CD of the year by Music Connection Magazine. Since then she has been touring the east coast playing in clubs, cafes, colleges and festivals. Gabrielle was a featured new artist at the 2001 Bethlehem Musik Festival, The National Academy of Popular Music's 38th Songwriters Hall of Fame Showcase and a featured solo performer at the 2001 Nashville New Music Conference.
In 2002 Gabrielle released a live solo EP "Live and On Her Own" which found itself on the airwaves of acoustic music shows on college radio, NPR and internet radio stations. She started experimenting with new musicians and formed a trio with Nicholas D'Amato on Bass and John Clancy on percussion. With these new musicians backing her up, a new sound evolved bordering on what people are terming as "Folk-a-funk" - incorporating blues, folk rock, world beats and a lot of improvisation.
Gabrielle is planning to release her third CD in the Fall of 2003.
In addition to all of that musical talent, Gabrielle designed and created the artwork for the Kings Highway All Year Long CD jacket. In her spare time, she also makes jewlery and "Gabs Trinkets"...
