Background Vocals, All Year Long www.hillaryepstein.com
Rockrgrl Magazine writes, "Hillary's debut showcases her delicate soprano and finely-etched songs, mostly unadorned, but with a few embellishments that make this a sparse, yet rich collection." "Her songs display the kind of shivering intensity that will appeal to fans of early Indigo Girls," says the North Carolina Mountain Express. Inspired by a variety of unconventional artists such as Patty Griffin and Nina Simone, Hillary is "well on her way to establishing a singular musical identity," notes Jeff Jackson, music critic for Sonic Net and MTV online, while New Jersey's WFDU calls her songwriting "impressive and unique."
A charismatic performer with an incomparable singing style, Hillary writes songs that are reflective, soulful, often irresistibly catchy, and always authentic. A native New Yorker who has been performing since an early age, Hillary studied drama, classical voice, and literature at Duke University. After graduating, she worked as a book editor in Manhattan by day, while performing in New York City at night.
Hillary performs regularly at venues including The Cutting Room, The Bitter End, and CB's 313 Gallery and in Albany and upstate New York. This past April, Hillary was a showcase artist at the NEMO conference in Boston. Her music can be heard across the country on public radio stations including WRKF in LA, WFCR in MA, and Utah Public Radio. Her debut CD was recently featured as the pick of the week on WKZE's "Off the Beat-n Track," broadcast throughout CT and the Hudson Valley. She was a recent in-studio guest on NJ's "Traditions" show on WFDU. Hillary is currently at work on a second CD with producer, Mike Daly, formerly of Whiskeytown.
