James Wallace
Pennywhistle, God's Child
James is a singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist from Canada, born in Australia with family roots in the British Isles. Growing up he traveled the world, performing in choir festivals, and while living in Scotland, winning his first prize as a Finalist at the Edinburgh Music Festival.
James went on to study classical music at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Canada with continuing studies at Berklee, the NEC and Juilliard. He was awarded the Gold Medal at graduation from the RCM for highest national examination marks and at Berklee received the President's Award for winning the Concerto Competition as well as several prizes as a songwriter.
As a studio singer, James was selected from hundreds as the voice for the Fun Kids music program. Recording an album for Quantum/ Kensington Sound James relocated to New York, where he has performed at Carnegie Hall and been recording at the Looking Glass, home of Phillip Glass. James' original song, 'Beauty' has helped benefit the 'Look Good Feel Better' program in Canada (RDS Records).
Recently, James has collaborated with the noted keyboardist/ accordionist Denis Keldie (Natalie McMaster/Jann Arden) in a wonderful collection of original songs, instrumental pieces, and inspirational settings of ancient Celtic poems. The resulting CD, "A Red, Red Rose" (CBM, 2003) is drawing critical praise on both sides of the Atlantic. A riveting performer, James will be touring through 2003-2004 with a stellar live show.
