Christmas Prayers Featuring Bernie Shanahan
She’s decking the halls but she doesn’t care
She calls out his name, but he’s no longer there
Her child sits hoping to see Santa’s beard
But his vision is blurred by his mother’s tears
Teacher says everyone’s got a Christmas prayer
And the way that your eyes look to heaven
I sure hope that it finds its way there
Cause if I had a prayer to offer this Christmas Eve
I’d say it for you and let it go free
And this prayer won’t wonder and roam
Or idle in the clouds all alone
And I know that this prayer, will find its way home
He lies by his bottle and holds out his hand
Begging for coins cause God don’t give a damn
A worn tattered dollar, is thrown by his knees
By a young girl whose broken, and torn by disease
Sir, I know sometimes life, it just doesn’t seem fair
But don’t place all your blame on heaven
I think He’s the only one that cares
Cause if I had a prayer to offer this Christmas Eve...
Silent night, so many wishes, so many words
And everyone’s hoping that maybe their voice will be heard
He should be home placing the star on the tree
But he pleads with the Lord “Please don’t take her from me”
The doctor walks in through the waiting room doors
“Please, please tell me do we know anymore”?
Sir I’ve seen many husbands who sat in that chair
Who offered up words to heaven
But somehow yours must have made it there
Cause if you said a prayer for her this Christmas Eve
You held back the tears and you let it go free
And this prayer didn’t wonder or roam
Cause tonight you won’t be alone
And I know that your prayer has found its way home
